Our Programs
The following initiatives have been developed as part of Anheuser-Busch’s efforts to promote positive behavior on
college campuses:
- College Talk – This program is designed to help parents continue communicating openly and honestly with
their children on the subject of drinking as students prepare for college and begin a life on their own. College Talk
was developed by an advisory panel of authorities in the fields of education; family therapy; student health and wellness;
alcohol treatment; and social norms marketing; and through conversations with parents and students. Visit www.collegetalkonline.com for
more information.
- Social Norms – Social norms programs reinforce the fact that the majority of college students are making responsible
choices when it comes to drinking. Anheuser-Busch works with campuses across the country to provide social norms materials
to help reduce high-risk drinking among students. For more than a decade, Anheuser-Busch has invested more than $8.3
million to support social norms marketing programs at several universities across the country. This includes a $2.5
million gift to the University of Virginia in 2006 to help establish the National Social Norms Institute (NSNI).
- National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) – Anheuser-Busch supports this nationwide initiative held in
October that promotes responsible attitudes among university and college students across the country. In 2008, Anheuser-Busch
distributors participated in NCAAW programs on 56 campuses across the country.
- The BACCHUS Network™ – Anheuser-Busch is a leading supporter of this initiative, which focuses on peer education
and promoting positive peer pressure. BACCHUS is the largest student organization in higher education today, and the
oldest dedicated to peer prevention of alcohol abuse, with more than 32,000 active members on more than 1,000 college
and university campuses in the United States and abroad.
- National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) “Choices” – The NCAA “Choices” grant program is funded by a $2.75
million gift from Anheuser-Busch to support campus alcohol abuse prevention programs. This program has provided grants
to 214 universities nationwide since 1991 to support their campus-specific alcohol awareness programs.
- TIPS for the University – This program for colleges, universities and student organizations provides information
and intervention strategies for participants to address peers who may be abusing alcohol or consuming it illegally.
- Speakers Bureau – Members of our Corporate Social Responsibility Speakers Bureau deliver messages of responsibility
and respect for the law to students, parents, educators, community groups, and military personnel around the country.
- Courage to Care – Carolyn Cornelison holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University where she worked as director
of the Campus Alcohol and Drug Information Center for four years while advising both BACCHUS & GAMMA. She also
spent eight years as a national staff member for the BACCHUS & GAMMA Peer Education Network. Carolyn’s program
is a realistic discussion with students that focuses on college drinking, taking responsibility, recognizing abuse
and helping those with alcohol problems. More Information.
